When looking for a house to buy, you can visit local estate agents (known as real estate agents in New Zealand), for listings of property and homes for sale. Buying a house in New Zealand is usually a sound investment and preferable to renting in the long term. All real estate agents in New Zealand must be licensed and registered with the Real Estate Agents Licensing Board. Don’t deal with anyone who isn’t registered, because if they cannot meet the standards for registration it’s unlikely that they will abide by any other standards either. There are ‘family’ real estate agents and a number of large national chains, and the vast majority of  these agents have their own websites with residential listings.
